Reading MACD histogram shifts on UK session opens
The London open often produces sharp histogram flips as liquidity returns. Those flips can be real momentum shifts — or the aftermath of a thin overnight range. Treat the first thirty minutes as context gathering, not as a finished signal.
A workable confirmation sequence starts with the prior session’s closing structure. If price left an unfinished impulse into the close, an early histogram turn may simply complete that story. If the overnight session chopped sideways, demand a clearer cross of the signal line and a matching break of a short-term level.
We coach traders to annotate two timestamps: when the histogram first changed sign, and when price confirmed by accepting beyond a marked level. Entries drafted between those two moments are treated as unfinished work.
Keep the MACD settings consistent across your homework charts. Changing lengths mid-study invents noise that looks like insight.
